Neural Network Software for Research Purposes

Software for reserach purposes differs from teh application oriented perspective of users. Issues of automatic model selction , data integration, scalability and automation in gerenal are less important in comparison to enhanced degrees of freedom in parametr selection, integration of individual source code and add-ons.

Commercial Software

The MathWorks - Neural Network Toolbox
This toolbox provides a complete set of functions and a graphical user interface for the design, implementation, visualization, and simulation of neural networks. It supports the most commonly used supervised and unsupervised network architectures and a comprehensive set of training and learning functions

BNJ - Bayesian Network tools in Java
The Kansas State University Laboratory for Knowledge Discovery in Databases is pleased to announce release of Bayesian Network Tools in Java. BNJ is an open-source suite of Java tools for research and applications development in probabilistic reasoning.

NeuroShell Engine
The NeuroShell Engine is an Active X control which can be utilized in modern compilers like Microsoft Visual Basic and Microsoft Visual C++. The control can be added to a program just as other controls are added, like combo boxes and text boxes.

Simulator for Neural Networks and Action Potentials
SNNAP -- Simulator for Neural Networks and Action Potentials is a tool for rapid development and simulation of realistic models of single neurons and small neural networks. It includes mathematical descriptions of ion currents and intracellular second messengers and ions. In addition, you can simulate current flow in multicompartment models of neurons by using the equations describing electric coupling.

SIMBRAIN is a freeware tool for building, runnning, and analyzing neural-networks (computer simulations of brain circuitry). Simbrain aims to be as visual and easy-to-use as possible. Also unique are its integrated "world component" and its representation of the network's activation space. Simbrain is written in Java and runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

FANN (Fast Artificial Neural Network Library)
FANN Library is written in in ANSI C. The library implements multilayer feedforward ANNs, up to 150 times faster than other libraries. Fann supports execution in fixed point, for fast execution on systems like the iPAQ.

NNDef - Toolkit
A free and modular package for defining and executing Neural Networks. This tool offers you the best possible method for exchanging Networks definitions.

Public Domain Software

Stuttgart Neural Network Simulator
SNNS (Stuttgart Neural Network Simulator) is a software simulator for neural networks on Unix workstations developed at the Institute for Parallel and Distributed High Performance Systems (IPVR) at the University of Stuttgart. The goal of the SNNS project is to create an efficient and flexible simulation environment for research on and application of neural nets.

Joone Object Oriented Neural Engine
Joone is a neural net framework written in Java. It's composed by a core engine, a GUI editor and a distributed training environment. Joone can be extended writing new modules to implement new algorithms or new architectures starting from base components.

EasyNN-plus is a neural network software system for Microsoft Windows based on EasyNN that can generate multi-layer neural networks from imported files or grids with minimal user intervention.
Neural networks produced by EasyNN-plus can be used for data analysis, prediction, forecasting, classification and time series projection.
